Did you know that before frozen yogurt mix became popular, yogurt was used as soap? Yes it was! And along with many other uses as well. Back then when the Syrians (among the first discoverers of yogurt) came upon this substance, they found lots of uses for it. Contrary to Cleopatra’s milk bath, the Syrian women bathe in milk derivatives and you guessed it right – yogurt. The men found good use for it as a cleansing agent for their goats which did not smell as bad after application. It was also eaten by them although not as delectable as it is today, still it provided satiety for the people as it became a staple food commodity among them. It was discovered in a wineskin after the milk was heated and left out on a clean wineskin bag that Syrian travelers brought with them. Isn’t it amazing how such a yummy treat come from an unlikely source?
